What is the best Mediterranean diet?

My doctor has told me to go on a Mediterranean diet for my health. I need one the is not expensive but is affective and easy to follow.

Answer
As a Greek, I definitely say Greek and some Italian cuisine is good. Greek is very good because we use low-fat, olive oils and never use butter. Our meals are delicious and you never get that craving for junk-foods. The recipes are easy and quick.

Which Merrick Flavor (formula) would they like best? Which ones should we rule out completely?

Okay I am picking up some Merrick dog food tonight for my 2 dogs. Its for their Christmas Dinner.

Normally I keep them on a very strict diet, except on thanksgiving, christmas, and birthdays. Those days they get special dog food. (instead of their same thing every day, which is California Naturals Herring and sweet potato)

I discovered Merrick and few months ago and am very happy with their products (much better than feeding them that soft Cesar crap or alpo or ol roy or purina…you know the companies that make a lot of the soft food)

My dogs eat good the rest of the year why shouldn’t they on special occaisions as well.

So on Thanksgiving they had the Merrick: Thanksgiving Dinner.

Here are a few we are thinking of trying, but here is the kicker, only one will be chosen.

So which one do you think these 2 cuties will like the best: (by the way Zack (poodle) hates lamb but will eat it and isn’t a huge fan of chicken but will eat it, Sasha (mix) doesn’t care for Lamb but will pretty much eat anything, that is 2 things we know. They goodness they both like fish)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/44902671@N07/4191079088/

Here are the choices:
All are Merrick brand

Susie’s Shepherd’s Pie

Main Ingredients: Beef, Beef Broth, Buffalo, Venison, Fresh Red Apple, Potato Starch modified, Pineapple, Cranberry

Grammy’s Pot Pie
Main Ingredients: Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Fresh Red Jacket New Potatoes, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Snow Peas, Fresh Red Delicious Apple

Mediterranean Banquet
Ingredients: Lamb, Lamb Broth, Lamb Liver, Whole Brown Rice, Fresh Chick Peas, Fresh Spinach, Fresh Golden Apples, Potato Starch-modified, Lamb Meal, Egg, Cottage Cheese

French Country Café
Main ingredients: Duck, Turkey Broth, Whole Ground Brown Rice, Potato Starch-modified, Dried Egg, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Whole Golden Apple, Garden Peas, Dried Apricot

Turducken (This bayou classic allows dogs to get in touch with their southern senses)
Main ingredients:
Turkey, Chicken, Chicken Broth, Duck, Fresh Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Green Beans, Fresh Granny Smith Apples

Smothered Comfort:
Main ingredients: Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Whole Barley, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Sweet Potato, Fresh Red Delicious Apples, Fresh Blueberries

Venison Holiday Stew:
main ingredients: Venison, Water for processing, Fresh Red Jacket New Potatoes, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Zucchini, Fresh Sugar Peas, Fresh Red Delicious Apples, Potato Starch-modified, Egg, Dried Blueberry

I know our store carries most of these, except I’m not sure about the last one.
ADD: For those that might be concerned that it will mess with their tummys….it doesn’t. We’ve done this their whole lives (Merrick has been the best though)

What we do is: We mix a small amount of the soft food in with their regular Kibble. They get it for about 2-3 days and then that is it

Answer
Well, I’ve been feeding Merrick for 2 years now. (after switching from a food that I fed for 30 years) My dog’s like all of them, but IMO, Turducken is the best.

life span, ages over 90?

my grandparents are 75 and 78. they maintain a diet of home-cooked Mediterranean food and they only snack on fruit. Could they live to be over 95? is that a rare occurrence in todays society? im just really paranoid. Is 15 years a long time? or will it go by fast? can people live that long

Answer
If they have a good diet- its important. Another question you should ask is whether they are active enough. Being active reduces the ageing process by allowing the metabolic processes to continue at the regular rate. What I mean is exercise(active movement), healthy laughter. stress-free life, good rellations are also important. Also check the history of life-spans in their family. Last, but not least, if they live in the countryside it could prove a better advantage over a city area.

It is easy to maintain a long life but people have to take efforts to really improve their life- not just lifestyle but mental health, good relations, helathy hobbies, etc.

History has recorded life spans upto 116 years and above.(in the present time)

What are weight loss diet pills and how exactly do they help you lose weight?

like what do they do, make you want to eat less (lol i wish) or what?

no i am not overweight, i am perfectly NORMAL, that is the problem. i weight 110 and i am 14 and that may seem ok but not for me since i am training to be a professional dancer. i dance 3 hours everyday. except sunday, and believe me, its not that easy AT ALL. so dont go on telling me i am normal, because it wont help, but thanks for the answers anyways! first one who answer my question and actually helps me lose some weight gets ten points! what other formulas or diet stuff can i like drink to lose weight?

my family is all into organics, and there is not one teeny bag of junk food in our house. we don’t eat white bread, i eat nonfat yogurt, 1% fat milk, and all the food my mom cooks is like Mediterranean and all that. we get our food at all-organic stores and not like at food4less and allbertsons and smiths and etc. whatever.

Answer
Whenever you are trying to lose weight, you should concentrate on these three things which all work together in providing a healthier and quicker weight loss goal for yourself. I have found this combination really successful in my weight loss plans. The first thing is exercising and how much you can put forth into it. The more you exercise, the more results you will see. The next thing is dieting and the calorie intake. If you exercise more, technically you could eat more? Always watch what you eat.

Now the last step in a good weight loss plan is always a good diet pill that can help you get to the end of the road. I have found Proactol which is a natural herbal diet pill to be the best around. It’s an appetite suppressant along with being a fat blocker which stops up to 28% of fat you eat. Read up about it at TheWeightLossPlace.com where I saved money on it. Proactol really works well with exercising which gives you plenty of energy to perform. Along with that your diet will be affected by Proactol due to the appetite suppressant and fat blocker. If you slip up on meals, the fat blocker kicks in. It’s really great to stop food cravings.

Concentrate on those three things and the combination is deadly for the fat cells in your body. Good luck and I hope this helps.

how can i eat like a good mediterranean diet?

what are some good foods and tips and books?

Answer
Although MOST diets aren’t good in the long run, this is actually a very healthy and sensible diet!

To answer your question, mainly this diet is comprised of a vast amount of fresh veggies/fruits, lean protein and olive oil.

That’s basically it, although this diet does not condone red meats, those are usually once a month on this diet.

This is an excellent layout of the diet; it’s an exact Mediterranean diet food pyramid:

Hope this helps, and good luck with it if you try it! :)

Why do people criticise the ‘western’ diet?

Even though, generally european people are amongst the tallest and physically strongest people in the world?
White people have almost conquered the entire world numerous times over the past few thousand years, and i’m sure their diet played a key part in their success – it gave them sharp minds and strong bodies. And lets not forget how beautiful north european women are.

So eat all the red meat, bread and drink all the milk you want, it will help to make you stronger, as long as you also remember to train hard. That’s very important too.

Forget about all those fad cuisines like Mediterranean and Japanese food. Have you seen what crete and asian guys look like? They stand about 5’5 and have the physique of a pencil. Do you want to end up looking like that? No. So eat your damn steak and eggs.

Every single strongman competitor is of European origin. And that’s because they eat a good, healthy ‘WESTERN’ diet.

Answer
The western diet is often eating pizza and sugary drinks while slouched in front of the T.V. As to red meat, eat too much of it and gout and cancer will be your friend.

Minoan influence was widespread throughout the Aegean area, and many of the inhabited islands of the Cyclades and mainland Greece (Mycenae for example) were extensively influenced by Crete. The Minoan culture was named after King Minos of Crete, who ruled around the time of 1350-1250 BCE. Great palaces were built at Knossus and Phaistos, among other locations. This remarkable culture was relatively stable over a period of 1600 years. Its location in the center of the Mediterranean caused it to be a center of trade and oil and wine were exported in pottery vessels in trade for food crops from the mainland. Unlike their contemporaries the Egyptians, there was no oppressive priesthood or rigid artistic styles, and Minoan art reflected a freedom and willingness to assimilate other artistic traditions from throughout the region. Common motifs are creatures of the sea, not surprising since a large part of the commerce and diet of these peoples came from fishing boats that plied the waters of the Mediterranean. Here, in a very representative example, a bold painting of an octopus glides around and covers the surface of this flask. Note how successfully the artist has drawn the suckers on the tentacles, and how the coiling circles of the ends of the tentacles are repeated in the shapes of the handles flanking the spout. The Minoan artist did not constrain the design within banded areas, but rather let the images freely flow around the vessel.
